MUSIC AND PERFORMING ARTS
Music and Drama bring together academics, creativity and teamwork in an environment where all pupils can play a role, whether in the public eye or behind the scenes.
The cultural richness of life at King’s is a source of inspiration for our students who find a plethora of opportunities open to them. Creativity is encouraged and developed in many different ways – the number and variety of plays and concerts demonstrating the depth of artistic talent and enthusiasm within the school.
Music and Drama are not the preserve of the few. All pupils are encouraged to discover their skills, whether on stage or in production support, throughout their time with us. Regular House Plays, House Concerts and ‘Open Mic’ events provide an ideal opportunity for finding hidden reserves of talent!
The school has an excellent reputation for the quality of drama staged in the impressive Fitzjames Theatre. Many of our thespians develop their skills further in speech and drama lessons. We are particularly proud that a number of Brutonians have gone on to join the National Youth Theatre, and participation in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is a highlight of the school’s calendar.
We are fortunate to have two concert rooms for our choirs, ensembles, orchestra and a variety of bands. The church provides the perfect setting for the Chapel Choir whose performances attract wide audiences. Our Big Band, String Orchestra and Military Band regularly perform throughout Britain and overseas.
